The book of life is a tremendous thing, a recording of our greatest triumphs and saddest nights, the collection of all of our thoughts, wishes, dashed dreams and the realization of presence. Without the dark, could you really tell what light it? Without the flashes of bright star-streaked joy, would your grief sting like it does? If we really really checked in, would we want to feel less?

The book of life is a thing of vital awareness and fleeting beauty - nothing stays, nothing stops changing even for one second, even if the warranty is long and the bones are good - we are destined to lose everything we hold tight to as constant. But don't despair because there is ice cream and community and misunderstanding and redemption in this story; there are any and all monsters and holy beings that could be dreamed up by the most adventurous child, and there is boredom, too in case this is all too exciting.

I can imagine no other book I would most like to read than the unfolding one in which I have placed myself as a character, or perhaps all characters. There is no place I would rather be than here in this, watching the non-stop show in awe as the words slip by.
